SSW Student Awarded Prestigious National Fellowship

The Council on Social Work Education, the Society for Social Work and Research, and the Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work (GADE) have announced the recipient of their inaugural Social Work Doctoral Student Policy Fellowship as Johara Suleiman.

A PhD candidate in the School of Social Work, Johara will work to “connect social work research with policymaking in Washington, D.C. throughout the 2022-23 academic year.”

Johara’s research centers on the assimilative and racializing function of the child welfare system, and the impact that has on African immigrant families — particularly those of Somali experience.

Hearty congratulations to Johara!
