This week, the Council on Social Work Education is holding its Annual Program Meeting (APM). SSW Program Director (for our Master of Social Work program), Dr. Suzanne Shatila is slated to present twice at the conference.

The first is the poster presentation “Feminist Peer Mentoring in Doctoral Programs: Supporting the Next Generation of Students,” on Saturday November 12. Dr. Shatila will be presenting with her former colleagues from the University of Tennessee, Park University, and Concordia University Wisconsin.

Dr. Shatila also serves on the CSWE’s Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education. Each year, the Women’s Council hosts the Connect Session: a workshop spotlighting feminist and womanist approaches to social work education. This year, Dr. Shatila will address the topic “Feminism: Critical Issues & Innovative Ideas.” The event is scheduled for Sunday November 13. Dr. Shatila will present alongside colleagues from Morgan State University, and Monmouth University.

Dr. Shatila’s research focuses on “the influence of nontraditional student social location and role identity on social connection in the classroom.”
