SSW PhD Student, Channel Lowery, Presents Findings on Guaranteed Basic Income Pilot Program

Channel Lowery, a PhD candidate in the School of Social Work, was part of the Hennepin-University Partnership Collaborative Research Assistantship (HCRA), Summer 2022 cohort. After conducting research, Lowery recently presented her findings and recommendations to the leadership of Hennepin County. Her research centered on the Guaranteed Basic Income (GBI) pilot program for the county.

Lowery worked with Elana Gravitz and Crystal Myslajek (both of Hennepin County Human Services). GBI provides supplemental income to program participants for a set period of time without restrictions on how the funds are spent. Lowery’s recommendations included ways to reduce racial disparities, accelerate economic mobility, and lower barriers to participation.
