SSW Center for Practice Transformation Awarded Quarter of a Million to Help Address Inequity
The School of Social Work’s Center for Practice Transformation (CPT) is pleased to announce it’s been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to fund supervisor-training for Minnesota’s underrepresented practitioners.
According to a 2022 MDH report, 87.2% of social worker and 89.1% of other mental health providers identify as white. Over the next twenty months, grant monies will fund the cost of training for social work, marriage and family, and clinical counseling from underrepresented communities.
The CPT will also ensure the curriculum aligns with evidence-based multicultural and social justice principles for grant recipients. The CPT is excited for the opportunity to support MDH’s initiative of expanding the diversity of Minnesota’s behavioral health supervisors.
This grant is an important step toward enhancing health equity, and ensuring Minnesota’s behavioral health workforce better reflects the communities it serves.
