In Memory of SSW Academic Advisor Cindy Pavlowski
The School of Social Work is extremely saddened to share that our colleague, Cindy Pavlowski, died on Monday, July 26th. Over the course of her 35 year career at the University of Minnesota, countless students and colleagues were guided, helped, and encouraged by Cindy in various units including General College and U of M Athletics. For twelve years, we were blessed to have Cindy at the School of Social Work where she was our beloved undergraduate (Youth Studies; Social Justice; Family Violence Prevention) and Youth Development Leadership M.Ed. Senior Academic Advisor. She was the recipient of both the University’s John Tate Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising and CEHD’s Excellence in Academic Advising award.
We lost a colleague, a friend, and a fierce advocate for students. But we remember Cindy for how she lived. She cared deeply for students and colleagues, built a community in Youth Studies and YDL, and continued to plan adventures. She had an enthusiastic energy and hearty laughter that filled the first floor hallway of Peters Hall. Cindy walked her path beautifully with strength, presence of mind, and with so many around her as a testament of how much she was loved. We will miss her.
At this time, we invite you to contribute to the Cindy Pavlowski Memorial Scholarship Fund for Youth Studies and Youth Development Leadership, established following her diagnosis by her SSW colleagues. Cindy was touched by and supportive of the establishment of this fund, as it furthers her deep commitment to student support. The goal is to raise at least $25,000 to establish an endowed fund that will continue in perpetuity. The fund currently needs $8,000 to reach this goal. Please join us in paying tribute to Cindy with your donation.
