Biography

Michelle Mattison, LICSW, LMSW, RYT-500 is a Detroit native with a deep commitment to yoga, social justice, and improving health outcomes in underserved communities. She holds a BA in Psychology and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. While there, Michelle became a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Scholar, where she focused on implementing culturally sensitive frameworks for integrated behavioral and primary healthcare.

With nearly 10 years of clinical experience and progressive leadership in social work, Michelle centers anti-oppressive approaches to problem-solving and healing. She became an Ashtanga-trained yoga instructor in 2014 and learned the power of integrating mindfulness and equanimity into her approach. She is a dual-licensed Clinical Social Worker in Michigan and Minnesota.

A lifelong advocate for service-focused leadership, Michelle balances her professional roles with her most important one as a mother to three boys (ages 5, 7, and 9, two of whom have autism). Her lived experience as a mother of neurodivergent children deeply influences her approach to advocacy and her work to ensure inclusivity for all. After living in the Twin Cities briefly from 2016-2018, Michelle and her family returned to Minnesota in 2020 to access better resources for supporting their family’s needs. She is proud to call Minnesota her forever home.

Michelle’s career has included roles such as Mental Health Case Manager, Clinical Therapist, Team Leader, and Clinical Supervisor at a local non-profit providing mental health case management (Rule 79) services. She served as a Practicum Education Coordinator at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work, where she values the opportunity to guide students on their journey to meaningful social work careers.
