PhD Student Named Sutton Fellow

Stephanie Hanson, MPH, a PhD student in the School of Social Work — and instructor in the Department of Population Health at South Dakota State University — has been named a 2024 Sutton Fellow.
Billie Sutton is a former South Dakota senator who started a leadership development program for promising young leaders within the state. A competitive application process takes place every year, and a small number of people are selected as Sutton Leaders, then enrolled in the Billie Sutton Leadership Institute.

As part of this program, Sutton Leaders spend a year learning from national experts about leadership, identifying their strengths and weaknesses, and engaging in a “Community Engagement Plan” — a focused effort they design and participate in, that advances their communities.

A prestigious program within South Dakota especially, Stephanie says she is very honored to have been chosen!”
