PhD Candidate Johara Suleiman Wins Grand Challenges for Social Work Doctoral Award

School of Social Work PhD Candidate Johara Suleiman Wins Grand Challenges for Social Work (GCSW) Doctoral Award, which includes both a fellowship and mentorship for graduate students to turn research findings into policy proposals and guidelines for practice change.

The program provides $3,000 stipend to support graduate students in connecting their research to the people and communities that they are studying.

GCSW partnered with the Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work (GADE) to lead this project and develop a strategy for award selection and mentoring.

“This initiative will provide a meaningful mechanism for capitalizing on a vital constituency, the graduate students of today who are positioned to become the leaders in our field tomorrow,” said Denise Burnette, PhD, MSSW, MS, the incoming president of GADE, which helped make the fellowship awards.

Congratulations, Johara!
