SSW’s Suleiman selected for 2021-2022 Doctoral Minority Fellowship Program
Johara Suleiman, a School of Social Work PhD Student, was selected as one of the 2021-2022 Minority Fellowship Program Doctoral Fellows. The Council on Social Work Education Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) is targeted to racial/ethnic minority social work doctoral students who are preparing to provide leadership in practice, research, teaching, and policy promulgation in organizations serving underrepresented and underserved persons with or at risk for mental health and/or substance abuse disorders. Johara’s proposal outlined a commitment to her Somali Muslim community through ongoing clinical practice, informal role as a mentor, and her research focus on exploring the experiences of Somali community members with the child welfare system. The MFP provides professional development training, mentorship, and other supports to fellows. Please join the SSW in congratulating Johara on this incredible opportunity and well-deserved honor.
