Faculty Research Productivity Ranked in Top Third of U.S. Social Work Doctoral Programs
A new study ranks the research productivity of the University of Minnesota School of Social Work faculty as 20th out of 76 U.S. social work doctoral programs.
The study was published in the international journal Scientometrics, in July 2018. It examined the scholarly productivity of 1,699 tenure-track faculty in all 76 U.S. social work doctoral programs by analyzing the h-Index scores of each program. The h-index is a measure of the productivity and citation impact of a scholar’s publications.
To help explain the h-index differences, the study also collected information on funding sources, regional location, year of establishment, and faculty demographics. Results showed that research productivity was affected positively in institutions that have larger faculties, locations in the West or Midwest, and public funding.
