Michelle Mattison Named On-Campus MSW Program Director
Michelle Mattison, LICSW, LMSW, has been named MSW Program Director for the on-campus program at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work. Mattison steps into this role after serving as Practicum Education Coordinator for the MSW program.
“This role provided me many opportunities to get to know what our students are experiencing and how they evolve into social workers who focus on and desire to deliver healing to our community,” Mattison said. “These experiences will inform my approach to ensuring that we nurture our students' experience to develop them into responsible, balanced and ethical social work practitioners.
A Detroit native and dual-licensed Clinical Social Worker in Michigan and Minnesota, Mattison holds a BA in Psychology and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she studied as a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Scholar, focusing on implementing culturally sensitive frameworks for integrated behavioral and primary healthcare.
“Our students come to this program with such a diverse set of experiences and a yearning to become competent/ invested social justice professionals,” said Mattison. Since starting my career as a social worker, I have always desired to serve in a leadership capacity to positively affect change. This role appealed to me because it is directly involved with shaping the quality and overall experience of our students' education; they are my true reason.”
